Charlotte, NC : Woman and 6-year-old boy died after a single-car wreck on East Independence Boulevard on Monday night, April 11, 2016
Charlotte, North Carolina
Police said an argument led to a single-car wreck that killed a woman and a 6-year-old boy on East Independence Boulevard Monday night.
The driver of the car, Vanessa Annette Adams, 33, and Gianni Espinoza died.
Police said Gianni’s mother, front-seat passenger Crystal Marie Day, 33, caused the wreck when she grabbed the steering wheel while arguing with Adams. That caused the westbound 1999 Toyota Solara to veer to the right, strike a guardrail and overturn on the road, police said.
Day was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Police charged Day with two counts of involuntary manslaughter and one count of child neglect. She will be taken to the Mecklenburg County jail once she is released from Carolinas Medical Center, police said.
Neither Adams nor Day had seat belts on, and Gianni was not properly restrained in a child seat, police said.
The wreck happened shortly before 9 p.m. in the 7500 block of East Independence Boulevard.
Police said they do not know whether alcohol also contributed to the wreck.
