BELEN, NM : A single-vehicle rollover crash at a Belen gas station on Friday, July 7, 2017
A single-vehicle rollover crash at a Belen gas station sent six people to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries late Friday afternoon.
“In watching the (surveillance) video from the Giant, the vehicle was southbound on N.M. 314 and seemed to be going too fast,” said Belen Police Deputy Chief Robert Miller.
The Ford pickup was rapidly approaching a line of vehicles stopped on 314 at the traffic light at Lopez Road and the driver seemed to realize there wasn’t enough time to stop, Miller said.
“The vehicle appeared to try to veer into the gas station lot but it hit the curb and rolled,” he said. The pickup came to rest on its roof between two rows of gas pumps, hitting two parked vehicles fueling up at the station. Miller said the Ford didn’t hit any of the gas pumps and there were no fuel spills.
“We need to get it upright, see if there were child restraints being used and continue our investigation,” the deputy chief said.
Miller said there were four children in the vehicle, an adult driver and passenger.
