Waycross, GA : Teen killed in crash with semitractor-trailer in front of South Georgia College’s Waycross campus on Saturday, January 14, 2017
A Waycross teen died over the long Martin Luther King holiday when her car crashed into the rear of a tractor-trailer stopped at a traffic light, the Georgia State Patrol said.
Hannah Brinkley, 16, was driving a 2016 Altima east on U.S. 82 at the traffic light in front of South Georgia College’s Waycross campus about 8:24 a.m. Saturday when the car crashed into the rear of a semi trailer that had been stopped at a traffic light, a state patrol report says.
The Altima hit the left rear of the 52-foot trailer and spun into a 2014 Chrysler that was stopped in the lane beside the tractor-trailer at the intersection of U.S. 82 and South Augusta Avenue, the report says.
Brinkley died from her injuries, the state patrol said.
Jacobie Barnes, 34, of Valley, Ala., who was driving the International truck and Kimberly Sirmans, 20, of Ray City, Ga., the driver of the Chrysler, were both uninjured. Sirmans’ passengers, Brenda Mixon, 52, of Willacoochee, and Reid Holbrook, 8, of Ray City, also escaped injury, the report said.
Barnes told the investigating trooper he had just begun to pull forward when he felt the impact of the crash while Sirmans said she did not know if her vehicle was in motion yet.
Everyone involved was wearing safety belts, and no one has been charged.
