PROVIDENCE, RI : Providence man charged with DUI in crash that seriously injured another driver on Thursday, November, 23rd 2017
State police have charged a Providence man with driving under the influence after a crash on Interstate 95 Thursday afternoon that critically injured another driver.
Thomas J. Donaldson, 28, of 51 Rankin Ave., was charged with DUI, serious bodily injury resulting; driving to endanger resulting in personal injury; and refusal to submit to a chemical test, the state police said.
Donaldson was heading south in the high-speed lane of Interstate 95 about 2 p.m. when he abruptly changed lanes and struck the back of another car, which went off the road and flipped onto its roof. The driver of that car was taken to Rhode Island Hospital where he was admitted with critical injuries, the state police said.
The collision caused Donaldson to also lose control of his car, which went up an embankment and rolled over near the service road that runs parallel to the highway. Donaldson was ejected from the vehicle. He was taken to Rhode Island Hospital, where he was admitted for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries and later arraigned on the a above charges.
