NASHUA, NH : State trooper nearly hit by car while directing traffic on Thursday, October 6th, 2016
A New Hampshire state trooper was nearly hit by a car Thursday afternoon while directing traffic on the Everett Turnpike in Nashua.State police said Trooper Jeffrey Ardini was working a construction detail at the Exit 1 on-ramp on Everett Turnpike south.
Police said Ardini was in full uniform, wearing a yellow traffic vest, and was standing outside his fully marked state police cruiser with emergency lights activated.
Ardini attempted to stop a black 2013 Volkswagen Beetle, driven by John Hunt, 57, of Chelmsford, Massachusetts. Police said Hunt accelerated up the ramp instead of stopping, causing Ardini to jump out of the way.
As Hunt passed, his car brushed up against Ardini, striking the equipment on his duty belt.
Police said the Volkswagen’s rear fender was damaged.
Ardini was not injured. He returned to his cruiser and stopped Hunt just south of the on-ramp.
Investigation revealed that Hunt’s disabilities affected his capacity to operate a motor vehicle safely. He Hunt was cited for negligent operation of a motor vehicle and disobeying a police officer directing traffic.
A request for a medical review of Hunt’s driving privileges was forwarded to the Director of Motor vehicles.
