MEMPHIS, TN : 7-year-old killed; mother arrested for child abuse on Wednesday, November 16th 2016
A mother is in jail after her 7-year-old son was found dead.
Police arrived to a home just after 1 a.m. Wednesday morning after receiving a call that the boy was not breathing. The boy was taken to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in critical condition, but later died.
Police said the boy had several bruises all over his body and head injuries.
Police charged the boy’s mother, Michelle Williamson, with aggravated child abuse, aggravated child neglect, and aggravated child endangerment.
Those who know the family said they are in disbelief.
"I cannot believe this," Alnette said. "I cannot believe this."
Alnette did not want to give her last name. She said she has known Williamson most of her life.
"You got three boys, single parent. She was doing the best she could under the circumstances," Alnette said.
One man said Williamson and her three sons moved into a house with him and his mother temporarily. He said she had only been there two or three weeks when the 7-year-old was discovered not breathing around midnight.
"Everything seemed normal, acted normal," the man, who did not want to be identified, said.
The man said the 7-year-old was autistic but that has not been confirmed with investigators.
"The child didn't talk at all. If he was sick, he couldn't let you know he was sick," the man said.
But he also said Williamson was a good mother from everything he knew.
"I don't think she's a bad parent. I never seen her discipline her kids," he said.
Investigators are waiting for an official cause of death to be determined. It's unclear where Williamson's two other children are.
