KNOXVILLE, TN : Hawkins Co. school bus driver dies in crash on Highway 70 on Monday, 26th February 2024

On Monday morning, THP released a report of a wrong-way crash on Highway 70 North at Willow Road in Hawkins County around 7:30 a.m.

According to the report, 18-year-old Tylor Short, an Eidson, TN native, was driving a 2005 Chevy Silverado southbound on Highway 70 North when he stuck a school bus. The bus driver, identified as 55-year-old Aleita Gladson of Rogersville, TN, was wearing a seat belt but unfortunately died in the crash, according to the report.

THP also reports two children being aboard the bus during the crash, but they did not sustain any injuries.

Short was not wearing a seat belt and suffered some injuries, according to the report. Charges against Short are pending, THP said.
