FAIRFIELD, CA : Authorities investigate fatal crash on Rockville Road on Friday , September 15, 2017
Police are investigating a Friday morning crash that left a 75-year-old Fairfield woman dead along the side of Rockville Road.
The crash happened shortly after 9 a.m. on westbound Rockville Road just east of Lozano Lane, the California Highway Patrol reports.
A woman was driving a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee and drove off the roadway, onto the dirt shoulder to the north of Rockville Road and struck several objects before hitting a large tree, the CHP reports. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name was not released Friday pending family notification.
Preliminary reports from the CHP indicated that power lines were down as a result of the crash. Rockville Road was soon closed between Oliver and Abernathy roads due to what were initially thought to be power lines that were down in the roadway.
Crews from Pacific Gas and Electric Company arrived at the scene and shortly before 10 a.m. determined that the downed lines were AT&T guide wires, and not power lines, the CHP reports. Crews from AT&T were called to the scene.
The crash was reported near a rural commercial cluster that includes a mini storage business and a restaurant. Westbound Rockville Road also bends south in that area. The cause of the crash remained under investigation.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the Solano CHP office at 428-2100.
