Officers arrested a 19-year-old man driving a stolen car involved in a crash during a police pursuit Friday night in Seminole Heights, according to police.
Just before 10 p.m., officers were chasing a stolen 2012 Toyota Prius on N Florida Avenue driven by Jesse Stephenson with two juvenile passengers inside, said Tampa Police spokesman Lt. Steve Lee. About three minutes into the pursuit, Stephenson hit the back of another car and a telephone pole at South Avenue.
Stephenson suffered minor injuries, Lee said. No one else involved in the crash was hurt. N Florida Avenue was closed temporarily to repair the pole.
Officers arrested Stephenson on several charges, including fleeing to elude, grand theft auto and possession of a firearm by a felon. He is being held in the Hillsborough County Jail with no bond, according to jail records.
One of the passengers, a 17-year-old whose name was not released because of his age, was arrested on an outstanding warrant. The other passenger was released to his parents with no charges.
