An SUV collided with a school bus in southwest Charlotte Tuesday morning.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said the accident happened at 641 Archdale Drive around 7:45 a.m.
Bonnie Sornen was driving in front of the school bus; she told NBC Charlotte that she saw a van pull on to Archdale drive just as the bus approached.
"He tried to beat the bus but he couldn't" she said. "I have never seen anything like that before."
An official with CMS said 12 students were on board at the time of the accident, but no students were injured.
The driver of the SUV was taken to Carolinas Medical Center after suffering injuries, according to Medic.
A baby was also inside the van, but a relative took the uninjured child back home.
A second bus was sent to the accident scene to take the students to Waddell Language Academy.
One student said, "We're okay, but it was like wow," as he walked to a waiting bus.
