Ford County, KS : Kinsley man hurt in crash on US-50 highway at 118th Road on Thursday, 19th December, 2019

An elderly Kinsley man was seriously hurt when he rear-ended a stopped vehicle and then spun into a passing semi.

The crash occurred about 5:40 p.m. on US-50 highway at 118th Road in Ford County.

The patrol reported Melvin W. Brake, 84, was driving on US-50 in a 2009 Ford passenger car when he collided with a 2006 Toyota passenger car driven by Brock W. Helfrich, 28, of Wright, that was stopped waiting to make a left turn.

After impact, Brake’s car spun into the oncoming traffic, striking the trailer of a 2013 Freightliner semi driven by David A. Pace, 65, of El Dorado.

Brake, who was not wearing a seat belt, was transported to Western Plains Hospital in Dodge City with suspected serious injuries.
