Three people were injured in a two-car crash in the intersection of South Maple and West Cedar streets around 1:30 a.m. Friday.

Akron firefighters said they had to cut open a red Chevrolet that ended up in the woods after the crash to remove the driver before taking him to the hospital. Two people inside a red Chrysler were also transported to local hospitals.

Akron firefighters worked for about 25 minutes to remove the driver from the Chevrolet cutting the doors and roof off the car to get the driver out.

The conditions of all three were unknown.

Police at the scene said one of the drivers ran a red light but they had to reconstruct the crash before knowing for sure who was at fault.

The intersection remained closed for a few hours while Akron police investigated.
