Walnut woman dies in head-on crash

A Walnut woman died after crashing her vehicle into a tractor trailer on Highway 72 on Tuesday night.

Jennifer D. Hopkins, 43, was traveling west on Highway 72 when Highway Patrol investigators say it appears she lost control of her 1999 Chevrolet Blazer and crossed the median, striking a 1998 Volvo tractor trailer head on.

Hopkins died on the scene of the crash.

Jimmie D. Carpenter, 62, of Adair, Okla., operator of the tractor trailer, was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and released.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash.
