San Marcos,TX : Teen killed in crash that injured local residents on November, Saturday 4th 2017
The DPS in Austin said Cade Simon was killed in the two-vehicle collision that occurred along FM 969 about six miles northwest of Bastrop. It occurred around 7:46 p.m. Saturday after a west bound 2011 Toyota Sienna driven by 18-yearold Jacklyn Lorenzo of Elgin attempted to pass another vehicle with insufficient clearance. Chris Vargas, 25, of Maxwell, who was at the wheel of an east bound 2000 Infinity, went to the shoulder in an attempt to take evasive action; however, the Toyota’s front left quarter hit the Infinity’s side.
Simon was a passenger in the Infinity. Its driver, Vargas, is in stable condition at Dell Seton Medical Center, Austin. Also injured in that vehicle were passengers Keirsey Sanchez, 16, of San Marcos, who was treated and released from Dell Seton, Victoria Osler, 17, of Martindale, and Trent Simon, 16, of Centerville. Trent Simon and Osler were said to be in stable condition Monday.
Lorenzo was treated and released from Dell Seton Medical Center in Austin. Passengers Joselyn Lorenzo, 15, and Juan Lorenzo, 18, both of Elgin, were treated and released from Dell Children’s Hospital.
Investigation into the crash continues. The roadway was dry at the time and the speed limit was 65 mph.
The crash came less than a week after 15-year-old San Marcos High School student Leslie Lopez was killed along Interstate 35, and others were injured, and just more than a week after 30-year-old Thomas Alvarez Jr. of San Marcos and 32-year-old Rene Ramos Garibay of Mexico were killed in a fiery two-vehicle crash on FM 621 (Staples Road) just outside San Marcos.
