WHITTIER, CA : Driver killed in solo crash on Workman Mill Road on Tuesday, August 29, 2017
A driver died when he lost control of his car, hit a fence then a brick-and-concrete pillar early Tuesday morning.
Coroner’s spokesman Brian Elias identified the driver as 22-year-old Manuel Vasquez . The California Highway Patrol Office said the driver is from El Monte.
The fatal solo crash occurred in the 3800 block of Workman Mill Road, north of Pioneer Boulevard, shortly after 2 a.m. It is located in the unincorporated county area near Whittier and near Rose Hills Memorial Park.
A 2004 Honda Civic was speeding north on Workman Mill Road before the crash, according to CHP Sgt. James Farner in a statement.
As the road curved, Vasquez lost control of the car. Farner said Vasquez veered to the right, hit the curb, went over the curb and struck a chain-link fence.
The car then traveled north and crashed into a large pillar.
Officer Al Perez, spokesman for the Santa Fe Springs CHP Office, said the driver side of the car hit the pillar. He said a witness reported the crash to authorities.
Paramedics pronounced Vasquez dead at the scene at 8:15 a.m.
Officers don’t know yet how fast the car was traveling before the crash, according to Perez.
