Marietta, GA : Fatal wreck on I-75 in Marietta leads to slow morning commute on Thursday, 27th October 2016
An early morning fatal crash on Interstate 75 southbound near North Marietta Parkway on Thursday snarled traffic for hours on the interstate as well as surface streets through Cobb.
The crash happened just after 4 a.m. after the driver of a red BMW lost control of his vehicle and struck a gray passenger car, with the force of the collision causing the BMW to overturn, according to police. Ejected from the vehicle was its driver, 43-year-old Brian Kibler of Marietta, who was pronounced dead at the scene, said Officer Brittany Wallace, spokesperson for Marietta Police.
The second vehicle’s driver, 28-year-old Nicholas Boyett of Marietta, was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital with minor injuries and had been released as of 8 a.m.
A 4:30 a.m. a Nixle alert from Marietta Police warned drivers to avoid the affected portion of the interstate for the next hour as only one lane was open at that time, but traffic was affected for several hours after the crash.
An alert from police and a tweet from the Cobb Department of Transportation Twitter account about 7:45 a.m. announced that all lanes had by then reopened, but not before DOT officials reported delays on several county corridors, including Cobb Parkway.
Anyone with information related to the crash is encouraged to contact Officer Henderson at 770-794-5364.
