Richmond, VA : A single-vehicle crash on Route 288 on Monday, January, 15th 2018

A Chesterfield County man was killed Monday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash on Route 288.

About 3:50 p.m., state police responded to the crash, which occurred at the southbound state Route 288 ramp to eastbound state Route 10 (Ironbridge Road).Police said Joseph Christopher Ward, 29, of North Chesterfield, died at the scene of the crash.

According to the preliminary investigation, a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck traveling south on Route 288 struck the right guardrail and then veered to the left. The truck then hit the left guardrail, veered to the right, and struck the right guardrail again. The truck traveled about 800 feet against the right guardrail before going off the road to the right and hitting a tree.

Police said Ward was wearing a seatbelt. The crash remains under investigation.
