Alexandria, MN : Driver dies after two-vehicle crash near Nelson on Saturday, July 16, 2016
One of the drivers in a two-vehicle crash near Nelson, Amber Lynn Martinson, 28, of Alexandria, has died.
The St. Cloud Hospital confirmed the death today, Monday.
The crash happened around 5 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of County Road 9 and County Road 73, north of Nelson.
Deputies and first responders arrived on scene and assisted with the injured.
Deputies determined a 2004 Chevrolet Ventura van driven by Deborah Ann Kempkes, 49, of Underwood was traveling east on CR 73 and failed to stop at the stop sign.
The van collided with a 2004 Chevrolet Impala driven by Martinson, who was traveling north on CR 9.
Both vehicles entered the ditch on the northeast side of the intersection and Kempkes' vehicle overturned.
North Ambulance transported Kempkes to the Douglas County Hospital and Martinson was transported by Life Link Helicopter to the St. Cloud Hospital.
As of 8 p.m., Kempkes was listed in stable condition.
The sheriff's office was assisted by North Ambulance, Life Link III, Carlos First Responders and the Alexandria Fire Department.
The Minnesota State Patrol assisted with a reconstruction of the accident.
Martinson worked at the Corral Saloon and Eatery in Nelson.
