SEEKONK, MA : One person has died following a single-car crash on Sunday, August 6, 2017

Seekonk Police confirm one person has died following a single-car crash Sunday night. The crash happened just before 9 p.m. in the intersection of Pine Street and Brown Avenue, just north of Ledgemont Country Club.

“At approximately 8:40 p.m. we were called for a motor vehicle accident with a rollover and wires down,” said Seekonk Police Lieutenant Gerard LaFleur. “We arrived on scene with wires around the vehicle. We were unable to get access to the vehicle.”

Police say the car crashed into a utility pole, rolled over, and brought down the pole and power lines. The driver, a 33-year-old man, died at the scene. Police said speed appeared to be a factor.

“We believe there was one occupant and he was deceased on scene,” said Lt. LaFleur. “Speed was a factor but we’re still investigating further right now.”

National Grid completely shut down power to the area for approximately 30 minutes to make the crash scene safe for officials to extract the victim out of the vehicle.

Power is still working to be restored to the entire area, as of 11:30p.m. Sunday.Massachusetts State Police are assisting the Seekonk police and fire departments in investigating the crash.

It’s still unclear whether drugs or alcohol played a factor in this crash, in addition to speed.

As of 11:30 p.m. officials were still at the scene, and expected to be there for several hours to finish reconstructing the accident.
