DURHAM, NC : 81-year-old man killed in crash near The Streets at Southpoint mall on Monday, 1st July 2019

An 81-year-old man died Monday evening in a crash near The Streets at Southpoint mall.

Durham police said a 2015 Nissan Rogue driven by Annette Fox, 85, of Durham, collided with a 2016 Mazda 6 driven by Samantha Gomez, 26, of Cary, around 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of Leonardo Drive and Renaissance Parkway.

According to police, Fox was headed east on Renaissance Parkway when she made a left turn in front of Gomez, causing the Nissan to flip on its side.

Fox's husband, Billie J. Fox, was in the passenger seat and died at the scene.

Annette Fox was taken to UNC Hospitals with serious injuries. Gomez was not injured.

Alcohol and speed were not factors in the crash, according to investigators. No charges were filed.
