Templeton, CA: Motorcyclist dead after hitting tractor-trailer on Hwy. 46 West on Thursday, July 16th 2015
A motorcyclist was killed Thursday in the second fatal accident on Highway 46 West this week.CHP Officer Patrick Seebart said that about 10:15 a.m., three motorcyclists traveling west on Highway 46 West in Templeton passed two other vehicles that were following a semi-truck driving between 5 and 10 mph and attempting to turn left onto Vineyard Drive.The motorcyclists passed the two vehicles by riding single-file into the eastbound lane. Once they returned to the westbound lane, they had to immediately brake to avoid the slow-moving semi-truck. Two of the motorcyclists were able to swerve to the right shoulder, but a third lost control and crashed into the rear of the big-rig and was thrown from the bike.The third motorcyclist’s bike then spun and hit one of the other motorcyclists, throwing that motorcyclist from his bike.The motorcyclist who struck the truck was pronounced dead at the scene. The other motorcyclist was taken via ambulance to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo.The dead motorcyclist has not yet been identified pending notification of his family, but the CHP said he was a resident of Black Canyon, Ariz.Seebart said drugs or alcohol intoxication are not suspected in the crash, but the agency is continuing to investigate.On Tuesday, a 20-year-old woman and her 11-year-old brother from Cambria were killed when the pickup they were riding in plunged off the highway near the Vista Point summit.
