Ontario,CA : 2 crashes, 1 fatal, snarl traffic on 60 Freeway in Ontario on August, Monday 7th 2017

Two large crashes — one of which left one person dead and another wounded — jammed traffic Monday afternoon on the 60 Freeway in Ontario.

Officials announced shortly before 1:30 p.m. that a crash reported about 40 minutes earlier in the eastbound lanes of the 60, west of Archibald Avenue, turned fatal. California Highway Patrol Officer Jesus Garcia confirmed that one person died and one person was hospitalized.

No further details were available.

A gray SUV could be seen on its roof in the middle of the lanes at 12:30 p.m.; paramedics were loading people into ambulances.

The crash initially blocked the carpool, No. 1 and No. 2 lanes, the log said. A SigAlert was issued.

Less than a mile east of that crash, at Haven Avenue, a dump truck and a big-rig crashed into each other, according to the incident log. That crash blocked the No. 3 and No. 4 lanes of the freeway and prompted a separate SigAlert.

The Caltrans Quickmap showed eastbound traffic on the 60 backed up from the crash scenes, past the Mountain Avenue exit in Chino. Westbound traffic was backed up from the crash scenes to the 15 Freeway interchange. By 2:15 p.m., traffic was moving normally through the area, though a few spots were backed up.
