Bolton, VT : One person died and another injured when car hits moose on Route 2 Tuesday night, Oct 6, 2015
A driver died after crashing into a moose Tuesday night on Route 2 in Bolton, state police said.
Police said the vehicle struck the moose while traveling west on Route 2. The car then veered off the road and struck a telephone pole. Authorities estimated the moose weighed about 800 pounds.
Police identified the driver as Brandon Preedom, 22, of Waterbury Center.
A passenger, Kourtney Cota, was taken to the University of Vermont Medical Center. She sustained a head injury but is in stable condition.
Investigators do not believe speed, alcohol or drugs were a factor.
The crash happened in front of Smilie Elementary School.
The roads near the site were closed after the crash, police said.
