Summerfield Township, MI : Ohio woman was killed in a chain-reaction multi-vehicle crash on April, Monday 17th 2017
A Sylvania, Ohio woman was killed in a chain-reaction multi-vehicle crash on southbound US-23 Monday afternoon.
Lt. Brian Angerer of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said three semi-trucks, a pickup truck and a car were involved in the crash that occurred around 12:11 p.m. about 1.5 miles south of the Ida West Rd. overpass.
The crash occurred while traffic was coming to a stop or at a stop, Lt. Angerer explained.
“Traffic was backed up because of construction further up the road,” he said.
Janet Rheinecker, 68, who was driving a Lexus passenger car, was stopped in the right lane of traffic. Traveling behind her was a Ford F-350 pickup truck pulling a trailer carrying a lot of items. The trailer and pickup truck was struck from behind by a semi-truck driven by Jeffrey Bowling, 54, of Gibsonburg, Ohio. The pickup truck had been stopped on the highway before the collision.
Upon impact, the pickup truck then struck Ms. Rheinecker’s vehicle forcing it into two additional semi-trucks, which had also been stopped due to the construction ahead.
