Carbondale, IL : 8-year-old died after a single vehicle crash in Massac County on Tuesday, June 14, 2016

An 8-year-old died Tuesday after a single vehicle crash Wednesday in Massac County.

At about 11:04 a.m., a 1986 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by a 16-year-old juvenile and occupied by four other juveniles was southbound on Mill Springs Road, when the truck slid off the roadway for unknown reasons, down a steep embankment, coming to a rest in the bottom of a rocky creek bed. The truck landed on the driver side, ejecting everyone but the driver.

Three of the four passengers were riding in the bed of the truck. The 8-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. Everyone else was taken to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
