Medford, OR : 31-year-old Jacob Jeffrey Shepherd died after collision with UPS truck near Cave Junction on Wednesday, Nov 18, 2015

A 31-year-old Grants Pass man died in a traffic crash east of Cave Junction Wednesday afternoon when he reportedly tried to pass a UPS truck but crashed into it instead and was ejected from the vehicle.
Oregon State Police reported Jacob Jeffrey Shepherd was driving a 2005 Ford F-150 on Highway 46 — the Caves Highway — near milepost 5 at about 3:46 p.m. Grants Pass resident Robert Eric Tauriainen, 54, was in front of him, driving a 1997 International UPS truck and preparing to make a left turn onto Barnes Way.
Shepherd attempted to pass on the left during the turn but struck the front of the truck, causing his truck to spin and roll several times. He was ejected from the vehicle and died.
OSP, the Josephine County Sheriff's Office, Oregon Department of Transportation, Illinois Valley Fire and American Medical Response responded to the scene.
