Laurens County, S.C : Christopher Lingerfelter, 46, died in school bus, truck collision on Highway 221 at River Fork Road on Wednesday, March 9, 2016

The Laurens County coroner identified the man killed in a head-on collision with a school bus on Wednesday.

Christopher Lingerfelter, 46, of Waterloo, was pronounced dead at the scene, Coroner Nick Nichols said.

Emergency crews responded to a crash involving a school bus and Lingerfelter's Chevrolet pickup truck just after 3:45 p.m. on Highway 221 at River Fork Road,, the South Carolina Highway Patrol said.

Nichols confirmed that Lingerfelter was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene. He died from blunt force trauma and had to be cut out of the truck, according to Nichols.

Sky 4 was over the crash, and the pickup truck sustained serious front-end damage. The school bus had front-end damage as well, but it was not as badly damaged as the truck.

Laurens County District 55 Director of Transportation, Geoffrey Stephens, said the bus had one child on board, a driver, and three aids.

Nichols said he believes they will be okay.
