Sevierville, TN : Two people died after a car crash on Highway 66 at Huffaker Drive near the La Quinta Inn on Thursday, December 3, 2015

Two people died Thursday on State Highway 66 North in Sevierville after a pickup ran a redlight and T-boned into the car they were in, authorities said.

The driver and the front seat passenger in the car were killed instantly. The back seat passenger was taken to UT Medical Center by helicopter.

The accident happened on Highway 66 at Huffaker Drive near the La Quinta Inn at about 11:46 a.m.

The passenger car was pulling out at the intersection turning left to go south on 66 towards downtown Sevierville when the crash happened.

Detective Kevin Bush with the Sevierville Police Department said narcotics may be a contributing factor as several prescription medications were found on the truck driver. He is in stable condition and a blood test will be done to determine if he was under the influence.

Investigators have conferred with the district attorney general to determine charges.
