Obispo, CA : Los Osos man in critical condition after head-on collision on Los Osos Valley Road on Tuesday morning, January 31, 2017
San Luis Obispo, California
One person suffered life-threatening injuries Tuesday morning in a head-on collision involving three cars on Los Osos Valley Road near Clark Valley Road.
The crash happened about 8:40 a.m. when a Ford Ranger driving west on Los Osos Valley Road repeatedly swerved into oncoming traffic, ultimately sideswiping a Toyota 4Runner, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Jordan Richards.
After that, the Ranger continued driving in the eastbound lane, where it hit a Ford F-250 head-on. The driver of the Ranger, a 43-year-old man from Los Osos, was extricated from his vehicle by responders. He was taken to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo with life-threatening injuries and then airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno in critical condition, Sierra Vista spokesman Ron Yukelson said.
The driver of the F-250, a Los Osos woman, was also taken to Sierra Vista because she complained of pain in her chest and neck. The driver of the 4Runner, a Los Osos woman who is pregnant and had a 3-year-old child in the backseat, was taken to the same hospital as a precautionary measure.
Alcohol and drugs have not been ruled out as factors in the crash, Richards said.
Los Osos Valley Road was closed for about two hours from Turri Road to Clark Valley Road as authorities investigated the crash.
