Sherman, TX : Man killed in a wreck on U.S. Highway 75 in Sherman Wednesday, March 15, 2017

The Sherman Police Department has released the name of the man killed in a single-vehicle wreck on U.S. Highway 75 in Sherman Wednesday.

Joe Espinoza, 50, of Denison, died after the vehicle he was traveling in struck a traffic barrier. Police said the vehicle was driven by Espinoza's 21-year-old son, who sustained injuries in the wreck that were not life-threatening and was transported Wilson N. Jones Regional Medical Center for treatment. Espinoza was also taken Wilson N. Jones, where he was pronounced dead.

Sherman Police Sgt. D.M. Hampton said the department's Critical Accident Investigation Team is actively investigating the fatal wreck, but had no other new information regarding the crash or the condition of the driver. The name of the driver was also not released.

In a statement distributed Thursday, the Sherman Police Department said the wreck occurred at approximately 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in the 4700 block of U.S. Highway 75. The statement said Espinoza and his son were traveling north on the control road in a maroon, two-door Toyota Scion, and when the pair attempted to enter a freeway ramp just south of F.M. 1417, the driver lost control and struck a barrier wall with the passenger side of the vehicle. Following the collision, the vehicle spun and came to a rest in a south-facing position.

Emergency crews initially closed both northbound lanes of the freeway in order to tend to the victims and clear the scene, but restored the flow of traffic some time later.
