South Deerfield, MA : Amherst motorcyclist crashes on River Road in South Deerfield on Sunday afternoon, April 17, 2016

A motorcyclist went around a bend on River Road in South Deerfield a little too fast and ended up with a damaged bike and a trip to the emergency room on Sunday afternoon.

When police and firefighters arrived on the scene, 25-year-old Freddie Sanchez of Amherst was still conscious after crashing his motorcycle into the brush above the Connecticut River, said Mark Puchalski, an officer with the South Deerfield Police.

An ambulance transported the motorcyclist to Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton. A spokesperson from the hospital declined to release information about Sanchez’s condition.

After the accident, police waited by the bike for a tow truck, flagging other motorcyclists around the accident scene. Dozens of motorcyclists were out around Franklin County on Sunday, a warm, breezy day.

“It seems more prevalent now,” said Puchalski, a police officer. “... It’s like riding a bike — you don’t forget how to do it, but you still got to be careful.”
