Wareham, MA : Two Cape Cod residents injured in a Single vehicle crash on Rte. 495 on Tuesday afternoon, March 28, 2017
Two Cape Cod residents were injured, one with serious injuries, after a one-car crash on Route 495 northbound Tuesday afternoon, Massachusetts State Police said.
At about 1:35 p.m. the one-vehicle crash occurred on the northbound side of Route 495 around mile marker 0.4 in Wareham, just north of Route 25 westbound, David Procopio, spokesman for the Massachusetts State Police said. The driver, a 30-year-old Hyannis man, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Tobey Hospital, police said. The passenger, a 29-year-old Barnstable woman, was taken to Rhode Island Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said.
Preliminary investigation by Trooper Christopher Andrade, of the Bourne Barracks, said that a 2016 Dodge Challenger was traveling on northbound on Route 495 when, for reasons still under investigation, the car lost control going off the highway into the median and striking a tree, police said. The investigation is looking into excessive speed as a contributing factor.
Officials closed a lane of traffic for grass reconstruction for about nearly four hours. As of 5:05 p.m. all northbound Route 495 were reopened, police said.
This crash remains under investigation with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, Crime Scene Services Section. State Police were assisted on scene by Wareham Fire and EMS as well as MassDOT.
