Michigan State Police say a Benton Harbor man has died after crashing into a tree during a police chase. Police say troopers tried to stop 22-year-old Harold Johnson for a traffic violation early Monday. They say Johnson fled the scene as troopers got out of their vehicle. Police say Johnson drove about seven blocks with troopers in pursuit before losing control of his car and crashing. They say he wasn't wearing a seatbelt at the time and died at an area hospital. Investigators say they don't know why he fled but he had six outstanding warrants mostly for traffic offenses.
