SHEFFIELD, AL : A Tuscumbia man died on Monday, July 24, 2017

Police said a Tuscumbia man died this evening at Helen Keller Hospital from injuries he sustained when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a SUV in Sheffield.

Sheffield Police Lt. Ray Terry said the victim was a 55-year-old Tuscumbia man.

Police would not release the name until family members had been notified.

Reports indicate the man was traveling south on South Montgomery Avenue when he struck the side of a Ford Expedition attempting to cross the roadway.

Emergency personnel at the scene said the SUV was attempting to cross South Montgomery Avenue from Saywell Street. The driver of the SUV was not injured.

Sheffield Police Chief Greg Ray said the victim was taken from the scene to Helen Keller Hospital in Sheffield where he was pronounced dead.

The accident remains under investigation by the Sheffield Police Department.
