Ottawa, KS : Alabama man killed after Fiery semi crash in Franklin County on Friday, March 25, 2016
An Alabama man was killed about 5:15 a.m. Friday when the semi-trailer he was driving left K-68 highway and rolled down an embankment almost 9 miles east of Ottawa in Franklin County, authorities said.
The victim was identified as Christopher William Cole, 44, of Troy, Ala., in an accident report published on the Kansas Highway Patrol.
The report indicated Cole was driving a 2005 Freightliner semi-tractor, which was pulling a trailer, west on K-68. As the semi-trailer approached a bridge, it left the roadway and overturned.
The semi came to rest on an embankment and partially in a creek bed, and the tractor and trailer then caught fire, the report said.
Authorities didn’t know whether Cole was wearing a seat belt.
