Los Angeles, CA : Motorcyclist killed in Harbor Gateway crosswalk crash on Thursday, March 31, 2016

A 27-year-old motorcyclist was killed Thursday in Harbor Gateway after he slammed into the back of a car stopped for a pedestrian crosswalk, Los Angeles Police Department officials said.

Several cars were stopped at the Carson Street crosswalk, at the intersection of Halldale Avenue, just before 3:30 p.m., when the motorcycle rider struck the car and was ejected onto the street, said LAPD South Traffic Lt. Chuck Springer. He died at the scene.

A preliminary investigation revealed the motorcyclist collided with one of several vehicles whose drivers were waiting for a pedestrian in the crosswalk, Springer said.

Traffic investigators closed down a portion of the street until late afternoon. The identity of the motorcyclist and other details about the incident were not immediately available.
