Metairie, LA : Jamiron Brown, 27, died in crash on Earhart Expressway in Metairie early Sunday, Nov 22, 2015

A Kenner man was killed in an early Sunday (Nov. 22) crash on the Earhart Expressway at the Shrewsbury overpass in Metairie that involved speeding and occurred as his father was driving alongside his car, according to Louisiana State Police.

Jamiron Brown, 27, of Kenner was driving a 2008 Infiniti G37 south in the right lane of the expressway, which is Louisiana 3139, at 1 a.m. when the car veered to the right and struck the right guardrail.

"It continued down the overpass, crossed the shoulder and rolled through a chain link fence," said a State Police news release. "Jamiron Brown was not wearing a seat belt and was partially ejected."

Brown's father, James Brown, 48, also of Kenner, was driving a 2015 Dodge Charger in the center lane next to his son, also at a high rate of speed, according to a State Police news release.

"As the Infinity hit the guardrail, the Dodge veered left and struck the concrete center divider twice before coming to rest," the news release said.

Jamiron Brown was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. His father was not injured.

Officials said it's unknown whether impairment was involved in the incident. Toxicology results for the younger Brown are pending an autopsy. The investigation into the accident is still under way.

In the news release, officials pointed out that National Highway Traffic Safety Administration statistics indicate that speeding is a factor in a third of all fatal crashes.

The State Police said Sunday also marks the beginning of a statewide "Click It or Ticket Campaign," coordinated by the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission. Under the program, local law enforcement personnel and state troopers will be enforcing the state's mandatory seat belt law, which requires all occupants to be properly restrained, regardless of age or seating position.
