Wilmington, NC : Car crashes into building on Castle Street on Friday evening, March 25, 2016
Wilmington, North Carolina
Emergency crews responded to a call involving a car crashing into a building Friday evening.
According to New Hanover County dispatch, the accident happened at the intersection of 13th and Castle streets at Port City Boxing around 5:20 p.m.
"I had literally just walked off and then crash this car came out of nowhere," said Pauline Boudreaux, who was inside the building during the crash.
Officials say two vehicles were involved in a wreck near the building. Following the wreck, one of the vehicles kept going and crashed into the structure
"It all just came falling down and brick and everything just came flying in at us,” Boudreaux recalled as she remembered the chaos that quickly ensued.
Broken glass and cement covered the sidewalk. Police officers blocked off the roads, while firefighters quickly worked to stabilize the building and clean up the mess.
Crews cleared the scene around 6:20 p.m. The driver of the car suffered minor injuries and was taken to NHRMC.
Boudreaux explained she wasn’t frightened by the crash.
"It’s not really a normal situation for me, but sort of a normal situation because of the line of work I'm in," Boudreaux said.
She works as a stunt double and has dealt with car crashes at her job.
"I would’ve just jumped over, done some little stunt move, and I would've been all upset that no one had recorded it for my reel," Boudreaux laughed as she tried to make light of the situation.
Boudreaux said instead of running away from the crash, she ran toward the car to make sure the driver was okay.
She said she didn’t know a second car crashed until after she went outside.
“We never even realized there was another car involved because the one just came flying in there. It was crazy."
