Cleveland TN : The driver in a second vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene wednesday morning on April 30 2014

Authorities say the Wednesday morning fatal crash on Interstate 77 south at Fleet Avenue was the result of a wrong-way driver.

Cleveland Police also say they believe alcohol was a factor.

Sgt. Ali Pillow said Jerome L. Cook, 31, of Cleveland, entered the freeway traveling northbound in the southbound lanes, causing a head-on collision with another vehicle.

The driver in the second vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office identified the deceased as 48-year-old Jack W. Dixon of Eastlake, who was driving a 2008 Ford Escape.

Family members told Channel 3 News that Dixon was on his way to work at the time of the crash.

Cook was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center, where he's in critical condition. Pillow said Cook faces life threatening injuries.
The third vehicle involved was a 2006 Chevy Tahoe, but the two occupants were not injured.

Upon release from the hospital, police say Cook will be charged with aggravated vehicular homicide and aggravated vehicular assault. Additional OVI charges may be issued pending test results.

In addition, a Cleveland police cruiser was struck while on the scene, but no officers were hurt.
