ANDERSON, IN : A series of collisions on Interstate 69 on Friday, 20th April 2018
A series of collisions on Interstate 69 on Friday morning resulted in officials shutting down a section of the interstate.
The southbound lanes around mile marker 221 were partially closed and northbound lanes were slowed, Anderson Police Department spokesperson Joel Sandefur said.
The accidents began at 7:13 a.m. when a semi traveling northbound drifted from its lane and hit a guardrail around mile marker 221. The impact punctured the truck's fuel tank, Sandefur said.
A hazmat team was called to clean up the spill, he said.
During the cleanup, traffic slowed and a pickup truck flipped over. The cause of the crash was unclear, according to Sandefur.
The pickup accident caused a chain reaction of five more accidents, he said.
