Eugene, OR : Brandon Shae Stansell killed in crash near Leaburg early Wednesday morning, September 28, 2016
Fatigued driving may have been the cause of a fatal crash near Leaburg early Wednesday morning that killed a 19-year-old Eugene man and injured his passenger, according to Oregon State Police.
Brandon Shae Stansell was killed and Arianna Mia Shields-Nguyen, 20, of Veneta suffered serious injuries.
At 3:20 a.m., troopers and medics were called to Highway 126 near Leaburg on a report of a vehicle that had slammed into a power pole.
According to authorities, a 1992 Toyota pickup truck, driven by Stansell, was westbound when it drifted off the road and rolled into the westside ditch.
Stansell was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene, police said. Shields-Nguyen was taken to PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend in Springfield. Her condition was not known.
The highway was closed for three hours during the investigation.
According to a Facebook page that appears to have belonged to Stansell, the teen was a Sheldon High School graduate who worked as an electrical salesman at Jerry’s Home Improvement Center. The Register-Guard archives show Stansell was in the 2015 graduating class.
His profile picture on Facebook shows him holding a U.S. flag flying from the back of a pickup truck, the same type of truck believed to have been involved in Wednesday’s crash.
