DONALDSONVILLE,LA : Iberville Parish man killed in crash outside Donaldsonville on August, Friday 4th 2017
Donaldsonville, Louisiana
A Plaquemine man was thrown from his car mid-morning Friday and killed after he crashed into a pickup truck at a highway intersection in western Ascension Parish, State Police said.
Ronald Dimm, 76, failed to yield for a stop sign at La. 70 and La. 3120 outside Donaldsonville around 10 a.m., troopers said in a news release Friday.
Troopers said they are investigating why Dimm, who was headed south on La. 3120 in his 1991 Dodge Shadow, didn't stop; however, they don't suspect either driver in the crash was impaired by drugs or alcohol.
At the intersection, cars and trucks on two-lane La. 3120 must cross into four-lane La. 70, which handles plenty of traffic from the Sunshine Bridge. A stop sign on La. 3120 southbound serves as the only traffic control at the intersection.
At the time of the crash, Henry Ordoyne Jr., 69, of St. James was headed west on La. 70 in a 2004 Ford F-150. Ordoyne, who was wearing his seat belt, had moderate injuries in the crash. .
The Ascension Parish Coroner's Office pronounced Dimm, who was not wearing his seat belt, dead at the scene, troopers said. Troopers said they expected that toxicology samples would be taken from both drivers for analysis.
