Conroe, TX : Man dies in single-car crash near League Line Road on Tuesday morning, August 12, 2014

A 33-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene of a single-car crash Tuesday morning, and two others were listed in critical condition after crashing into a pole near the 3900 block of Interstate 45 just south of League Line Road. Conroe Fire Department Assistant Chief Paul Sims said he was not certain of what caused the crash, but the car veered off the interstate and struck the base of a large flight tower on the service road. Montgomery County Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Wayne Mack said the driver of the small passenger car tried to exit Interstate 45 at a high rate of speed before striking the median and going airborne into the concrete pole. The car appears to be an older-model Mercedes but was difficult to identify because of the damage. “You can see from the pictures that the car was destroyed,” Mack said. The driver’s name was not released before press time due to pending notification of next of kin. The man who was entrapped in the car was pronounced dead at 7:31 a.m. A female patient was flown to Houston by PHI Air Medical services, while another man was transported via ambulance to Conroe Regional Medical Center. Specific injuries of the two surviving victims were unknown. Mack said it is unclear exactly where the three individuals are from, but license plate and early information indicated they were from Mississippi.
