Opelousas, LA : 38-year-old Herbert Rideau dead in a two-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 749 in St. Landry Parish on Sunday, March 22, 2015

A two-vehicle crash early Sunday morning on Louisiana Highway 749 near Armory Road north of Opelousas has claimed the life 38-year-old Herbert Rideau.

Shortly after 1:30 a.m. Sunday Louisiana State Police Troop I responded to the crash. They determined Rideau of Opelousas was driving north in a 1995 Toyota truck. For unknown reasons, Rideau ran off of the right side of the roadway, into a private lot and struck an 18-wheeler logging truck head on. Rideau was not wearing a seat belt and suffered fatal injuries. The logging truck was unoccupied at the time of the crash.

It is unknown whether impairment was a factor in the crash. Routine toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

This crash remains under investigation.
