TOWN OF ROCK, WI : Worker pinned under trailer in Highway 51 crash on Friday, October 14, 2016
A utility worker was pinned under a trailer with severe injuries after a crash along Highway 51 on Friday morning, according to the Rock County Sheriff's Office.
A truck and heavy utility trailer were parked in the highway's southbound shoulder near Sunny Lane while performing a job at a residence when a small car, driven by John Leusink, 29, of Beloit, moved out of the southbound lane and hit the trailer at 8:49 a.m., according to a news release.
Raul Gonzalez, 39, of Round Lake Heights, Illinois, was standing next to the trailer and became pinned under it, according to the release.
Co-workers and a passerby jacked up the trailer to free Gonzalez's legs before rescue crews arrived.
Leusink was arrested on charges of causing injury by second-offense driving while intoxicated and causing great bodily harm by driving while intoxicated, as well as driving after revocation and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Gonzalez was transported for medical treatment for extensive leg injuries, according to the news release.
Leusink, who was wearing a seat belt, was transported with lower back and hip injuries.
The highway remained open as the Rock County accident reconstruction team investigated, according to the release.
