Delhi Twp, OH : Former Mount St. Joseph University football player died in a car crash in East Price Hill early Monday morning, Sep 7, 2015

A former Mount St. Joseph University football player and South Dearborn High School graduate was killed in an early morning crash in Cincinnati.

Cincinnati Police say David Jefferson, 23, was the backseat passenger in a 2011 Honda Accord the wrecked into a utility pole on the 900 block of Delhi Avenue at around 3:00 a.m. Monday.

Jefferson, who friends say went by the name Kraig, sustained critical injuries and died at the crash scene. Police said he was not wearing a seatbelt.

Police say the driver of the vehicle, 23-year-old Lindsey Reynolds, had lost control of the Accord when the vehicle collided with the pole. While speed is not considered a factor in the crash, police said that Reynolds appeared to be impaired.

Reynolds was also not wearing a seatbelt. She suffered serious injuries and was transported to University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

Police said Joel Scudder, 23, was a second passenger in the vehicle. He was not hurt. Scudder is also a South Dearborn High School graduate and is a senior member of the Mount St. Joseph University basketball team.

Cincinnati Police are continuing to investigate the deadly crash, which occurred just a couple miles from the Mount St. Joseph University campus.

Jefferson played defensive back for the Lions football team during his senior season in 2014. During his days at South Dearborn, he quarterbacked the Knights’ offense. Friends say he was engaged to be married.
