St. Augustine, FL : Two young women were injured in a ATV crash on Friday night August 8th 2014
Two young women are recovering after a serious ATV crash in St. Augustine Friday night.
The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash near Jackson Boulevard and Second Avenue around 10:20 p.m. Investigators said the four wheeler had collided with a SUV.
Ashley Dighton, 17, the driver of the ATV, was life-flighted to UF Health in Jacksonville. Shanna Devoe, 20, the ATV passenger, was taken to Flagler Hospital. The driver of the SUV was not injured.
Saturday, Ashley Dighton underwent her first surgery, according to her mother, Mari’lena Dighton.
“It’s going to be a long recovery,” she said.
Mari’lena Dighton said her daughter ran a stop sign, causing the collision. She is now asking for prayers as Ashley recovers.
“Her whole right leg has got to be reconstructed, titanium rods, screws and bolts,” she said. “Rehabilitation. Learn how to walk again.”
Shanna Devoe was released from the hospital Saturday, according to her mother Janet Devoe.
“She has a fractured pelvis and her hips are kind of offline and she’s suffering from a concussion,” said Devoe. “She’s just really worried about her friend Ashley.”
The accident comes less than two years after Devoe’s other child, Tyler, was hit by a car after an altercation at a gas station on U.S. 1 in St. Augustine.
“I believe in God and God saved my son Tyler and he saved Shanna the same way,” Devoe told Action News.
The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office is not yet releasing details about the ATV crash and charges are pending.
“Debbie would never hurt anybody intentionally,” said Alex Harrill, friend. “She’s a good person. Always has been a good person.”
Ashley Dighton remains at UF Health. Her mother tells Action News she’s planning to set up a fund to help with medical expenses.
