Porterville, CA : One dead, two injured in a fiery two-vehicle collision in Tulare County early Friday, July 8, 2016
A Richgrove woman died early Friday and two Bakersfield residents sustained major injuries in a Tulare County crash south of Porterville, the California Highway Patrol said in a news release.
CHP officers responded at around 5:55 a.m. to reports of a fiery two-vehicle collision at County Line Road and Road 184 in unincorporated Tulare.
Upon arrival they found a 1998 Infinity driven by Rodolfo Torres, 59, and a 2015 Chrysler driven by Mariana Quinonez, 57, both of Bakersfield, had been involved in an accident.
Torres’ Infinity was traveling eastbound County Line Road when he is alleged to have veered into westbound traffic, allegedly hitting Quinonez’s Chrysler and then a pistachio tree, CHP Officer Justin Montooth confirmed.
A 33-year-old female passenger in his car was pronounced dead at the scene. The CHP withheld her identity pending notification of her next of kin.
Quinonez’s Chrysler burst into flames after the crash, and passersby pulled her from the wreckage before flames reached her.
She and Torres were taken to Kern Medical Center for treatment. Torres has not been arrested or cited, Montooth said, but the accident remains under investigation.
