New Castle, PA : Four injured in bicycle struck by an SUV Saturday on October 15th 2016
Three people were flown to hospitals from a pair of crash scenes Saturday evening.
The first accident occurred around 5 p.m. at 1952 Line Ave. in Ellwood City when a man on a bicycle was struck by an SUV. State police and firefighters from Wayne Township and Chewton responded to the scene. The crash is being handled by state police.
No further information was available Sunday on that crash.
About an hour later, a Ford 150 pick-up truck and a Subaru collided in front of the Hickory Township Fire Department on Harlansburg Road.
The driver of the pick-up, Keith Hall, 26, of Hickory Township was taken to Jameson Hospital by Noga Ambulance. Two occupants of the Subaru were flown to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital. Those were the driver, Robert Iwanejko, 22, of Hickory Township and a passenger, Priscilla Masello, 34, of East Garfield Avenue, New Castle.
According to Officer Brian Watkins of the Hickory Township Police Department, Iwanejko was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by Scott and Hickory Township firefighters.
Watkins, who was at the Hickory Township Fire Hall when the accident occurred, said Hall was eastbound on Route 108 and made an improper left turn into the fire hall. As Hall was making the turn, Watkins said, Iwanejko was coming over a slight hill and tried to avoid a collision but the vehicles hit head on.
On Sunday evening, Iwanejko was listed in critical condition and Masello was in serious condition, both at the Youngstown hospital.
Watkins said Hall sustained minor injuries.
