Miami, FL : Woman speaks out after car crashed into her room on Wednesday morning, July 16, 2014

A drowsy driver caused serious damage to an apartment building on Wednesday morning, around 6:00 a.m.

Monique Mejia was sleeping inside her apartment when she said a car crashed into her wall. "I woke up, and I had a car on top of the bed. I saw smoke everywhere. There was, you know, just red I guess from the brake light. I don't know. I woke up in a scare," said Mejia.

The crash happened on Biscayne Boulevard and Northeast 54th Street. Miami-Dade Police said the driver lost control due to fatigue. "I hear a loud noise. I then see a car come into the room, and it's basically halfway on my bed," said Mejia.

A Good Samaritan rushed to help Mejia escape. "I see the car go straight through the house," said Elias Estupian, who pulled Mejia out of her apartment.

Mejia said she is grateful to be alive. "I'm very happy, and I'm fortunate I have this life to live today, and I thank God. Thank God I prayed last night," said Mejia.

Police said there will be no charges filed since it was an accident. They said that the driver was tired and that the crash was caused when the driver fell asleep at the wheel.

A tow truck was on the scene to remove the car from the apartment.
